How to keep an aquarium log — and why it decides whether your tank thrives

A useful log tracks four things. Skip any of them and the rest lose most of their value — a parameter reading without context is just a number.

Water parameters

pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, KH, calcium, and salinity. Consistent readings — not perfect ones — are what keep livestock stable.

Livestock

A running record of who lives in each tank, when they were added, and how they behave. Historical context is what turns a symptom into a diagnosis.

Maintenance
